“Life was good….
I had been working for a small flooring company as their “IT Manager” for the last 5 years. Things were good, had a steady income, great insurance, and always knew I’d have a paycheck every Thursday afternoon. But then I started to realize something… my value.
I did some minor calculations, and realized my efforts were bringing in over $2 million per year for the company.
Profit… and I made $52k. Now I’m not saying I was being underpaid, but I knew I could find a career that would be more rewarding to the value I was bringing in.
Therefore, I started looking. Moreover, the more I looked, the more I looked at my own life. I had a 4-month-old daughter at the time, so I did not want to jeopardize anything for her sake, but I could not help but want to spend more time with her. Being stuck in the office 9-10 hours a day, with a 40-minute transit time both ways did not leave much time at home. As I continued my search for a better employment situation, I started talking to many of the people I knew online, primarily in SEO forums. I started talking about what an in-house SEO with good experience and a proven track record was worth to a company, and they all seemed to think that in-house was not the right path for me to take. Therefore, I started exploring other options as well.
While talking to Rod Brown, President of Spherica one day, he mentioned briefly that he would be willing to help me get my business started if I ever did want to begin my own SEO firm.
